About the Composer

John Holland, born in 1944, in Toledo, Ohio, is head of the Electronic and Computer Music Studios at the Studio for Interrelated Media, Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. In his computer music, the composer combines "intelligent" music composition, algorithmic ęsthetics, and electronically processed sounds.

The composer's work emphasizes the integration of science and art, incorporating musical patterns which simulate various structures and patterns in nature, ranging from the macroscopic to the microscopic.

Mr. Holland has produced recordings of electronic and computer music and has published computer-generated scores for solo players and small ensembles, as well as a variety of performance texts designed to be read aloud. The composer's scores are published by American Sound Press and are distributed by European-American Music and SoundArts Press Editions.
