From My Homeland

Titanic Records is pleased to announce the release of "From My Homeland," an album of rarely heard Russian flute music performed by prize winning Siberian flutist, Alexander Viazovtsev and pianist Benjamin Boren. The two works by Vladmir Tsibin, Concerto # 1 and Concert Etude #2, represent some of the finest music for flute produced by composers of the Russian Nationalist school. Otar Taktakishvili's "Sonata" is one of the great works for the flute exploiting the use of Russian folk materials in a Neo-romantic setting. The Prokofiev Sonata, Op. 94, is a great favorite among flutists and represents the height of his works for smaller combinations.

This recording truly represents the scope of different styles which were prevalent in Russia during the early twentieth century. Mr. Viazovtsev has received many awards and honorable mentions as a brilliant flutist and excellent musician including first-prize winner of the 2002 Frank Bowen Young Artist Competition, and the 17th Annual Myma W. Brown Artist Competition. He has appeared as a guest soloist with New Mexico Symphony (May '03) and Dallas Chamber (April '03) orchestras and was one a guest artist at the Texas Flute Festival (May '03).
